Happy Moving Day! -Suzan

In September 2021, the refugees in Samos were relocated to a new camp funded by the EU, one of five such facilities under construction. While the amenities in the new camp are superior, human rights organizations have raised concerns about its resemblance to a prison due to the presence of barbed wire fences and surveillance cameras. On this particular day, I documented Suzan's experiences. Through a series of photos capturing various moments, from her posing in front of her former residence to her attempts to adapt to the new environment, it became evident that Suzan had not been adequately informed about her new living arrangements. She received minimal information, only being provided with a time and location for the move. With no knowledge of what to expect or the rules governing the new camp, she entered hesitantly, her belongings scrutinized by security and her fingerprint recorded. Upon stepping inside, Suzan broke into tears, expressing her distress at the prospect of residing in what felt like a prison. "I don't want to live in jail, Romy," she lamented.

So, what can I say? "Happy moving day?"
