Indigenous liberation day

Videography

On October 12th, Aralez is organizing a day filled with activities to commemorate Indigenous Liberation Day. The events include a solidarity march, Mapu commemoration and solidarity ceremony, a 1492 people's tribunal, cultural performances, and panels. Together, we reflect on the significance of this day, marking Columbus's invasion of Abya Yala (the American continent) in 1492, which symbolically initiated European colonialism. This event led to the erosion of the rights to self-determination, identity, and culture for Indigenous Peoples globally. Despite ongoing efforts, Indigenous land defenders continue to face displacement and violence, while their lands are exploited by large multinational corporations, resulting in environmental degradation and the exacerbation of the climate crisis. It is imperative that we pursue reparations, justice, and decolonization. This festival serves as a platform to explore reparative perspectives on the climate crisis, promote intergenerational healing, celebrate cultural values, and foster solidarity.

I had the honour to film this events two years in a row: 2022 and 2023
